Description and details
Spruce coffee table Spruce Alpine coffee table circa 1850, with front drawer and charcoal gray lacquer finish Technical information: Code: T096 Age: second half of the 19th century Provenance: Tyrol Essence: Spruce Height: 70 cm Width: 60 cm Depth: 44 cm Description: Spruce wood coffee table, made around the middle of the 19th century, traceable to a production area of the Alpine area. The piece of furniture has a simple and functional structure, with a rectangular top slightly projecting from the under-top band and a central front drawer. The four legs are slender, tapering and slightly arched outward, following a typology widespread in 19th-century Alpine furniture, marked by formal essentiality and constructive solidity. The drawer has a small central metal knob; the interior, left natural, shows the light color of fir. The exterior surface features an anthracite-gray lacquer, probably applied at a later date, now affected by abrasions, lacks, and signs of use that leave the underlying wood showing through. This irregular patina returns a layered reading of the object, highlighting the relationship between the original wooden structure and later interventions. The small size and the presence of the drawer suggest a use as a side table or small service cabinet. Interventions carried out on all our furniture: - Structural restoration: restoration of small missing parts, closing of any cracks on the back, consolidation of deteriorated areas, inspection and repair of hardware. - Thorough woodworm treatment. - Interior cleaning and sanitizing. - Exterior finishing with natural beeswax. - Interior finishing with shellac, a natural alcohol-based varnish. Customization: Upon request, arrangements can be made: - the degree of restoration desired; - the customization of the interior (addition of hanging poles, shelves, dividers, etc.).
