Description and details
Pair of small mirrors in carved wood gilded with pure gold – Early 19th century An elegant pair of small mirrors from the early 19th century, crafted from finely carved wood and gilded with pure gold, featuring refined neoclassical decoration with references to 18th-century ornamental traditions. The frames feature a richly carved cornice with opposing volutes, foliage motifs, and a central element in the shape of a stylized shell. The sides are embellished with elegant plant motifs, while the lower section ends with two graceful curved feet. Originally, the two frames were part of a triptych of gilded panels intended for the liturgical decoration of an altar. Having lost their central element, they were later adapted into mirrors by inserting non-original mirrored surfaces. The antique gilding retains a pleasant patina of age, with slight signs of wear that attest to its authenticity and enhance its decorative character. A particularly charming pair, with harmonious proportions and refined carving, ideal as a decorative accent for classical settings or to create a sophisticated contrast in contemporary interiors. Period: early 19th century. Material: carved wood gilded with pure gold. Dimensions of each mirror: - Height: 33 cm - Width: 23 cm Condition: in good condition, with patina and signs of age. Mirrors were added at a later date. Sold exclusively as a pair.
