Description and details
Lodovico Tommasi (1866–1941) – Tuscan Landscape with a Farmhouse An interesting oil painting on cardboard by the Livorno-based painter Lodovico Tommasi (1866–1941), a leading figure in Tuscan painting from the late 19th century through the early decades of the 20th century, closely associated with the post-Macchiaioli tradition. The work depicts an evocative corner of the Tuscan countryside, featuring an old rural building nestled among the vegetation and a large tree that dominates the composition. The painting is distinguished by its loose and vigorous brushwork, its sensitivity to light, and the harmonious combination of earthy, green, and pinkish tones. Particularly interesting is the interplay of light and shadow across the ground and the walls, lending the scene depth and a pleasant atmosphere of rural tranquility. A work of remarkable pictorial freshness, in which Tommasi’s attention to landscape and the effects of natural light—characteristic elements of his artistic output—is evident. Signed lower left. The painting is presented in a modern gilded frame. Technique: oil on cardboard. Dimensions of the painting: 46 × 38 cm (width × height). Dimensions with frame: 56.5 × 49.5 cm.
