Beautiful pair of gilded wooden "palmette holder" altar vases, made in silver and mixed technique, from the Louis XVI period of Sicilian cabinet making. Made of finely carved stone pine wood, the vases are worked in the round , have a circular base and are all carved on a good part of them in the shape of acanthus leaves, rosettes and fluted strokes, with a pine cone end where on its top the palmettes were to be inserted. They were used in antiquity and placed on altars as decoration and at the top were inserted the palmettes, made of various materials such as, fabric, microbeads, etc. , which stood to symbolize the victory and majesty of Christianity.
