Description and details
Painted Tyrolean Sideboard Painted antique Tyrolean sideboard, dating from the early 19th century, with original floral decoration and historic patina. Authentic alpine furniture. Code: CR126 Age: circa 1820 Provenance: Tyrol Essence: Spruce Height: 82 cm Width: 129 cm Depth: 40 cm Description: Tyrolean beveled sideboard in painted softwood, dating from about 1820. The cabinet has a compact structure with a two-door paneled front, framed by simple and proportionate moldings. The surface is entirely decorated with casein painting with stylized floral motifs, centered on flower vases painted within rectangular boxes. The color scheme is dominated by a blue-green background with overlapping glazes, now visibly patinated by use and time. The bevels are decorated with a sinuous pattern of vertical floral shoots, while the slightly projecting top is finished with an understated linear band. Original wrought-iron hardware, including hinges and shaped handles, contribute to the object's historical reading. The painted Tyrolean sideboard is a piece of furniture of great rarity: closets and chests, essential storage elements in Tyrolean homes, were more often made. Only in a few residences of wealthy families were sideboards also present. Authentic examples that have come down to us are fewer and fewer, and finding an original one requires experience, attention (and luck!). In this particular case, the shallow depth is an added value, making the cabinet easy to place even in small rooms, without sacrificing the decorative presence and character typical of old Tyrolean furniture. Interventions carried out on all our furniture: - Structural restoration: restoration of small missing parts, closing of any cracks on the backrest, consolidation of deteriorated areas, inspection and repair of hardware. - Thorough woodworm treatment - Interior cleaning and sanitizing - Exterior finishing with natural beeswax. - Interior finishing with shellac, a natural alcohol-based varnish. Customization: Upon request, arrangements can be made: - the degree of restoration desired; - the customization of the interior (addition of shelves, dividers, etc.).
