Description and details
Market scene set in an open space, with figures of sellers and buyers arranged around a cattle in the foreground. The composition, developed horizontally, restores the movement and convivial atmosphere typical of rural fairs, with a tree-lined background and barely noticeable market curtains. The figures are treated with short, dense brushstrokes that suggest volume and posture without resorting to excessive detail. The work is executed on burlap, a typical medium in Rontini's production, which lends a marked grain to the pictorial surface. Due to the inherent fragility of this material-prone to breakage over time-the canvas was applied to a faesite panel to ensure its preservation. The color palette is dominated by earthy tones and greens, with touches of brighter color in the figures in the background. The simple, linear gilded frame is coeval or close to the period of execution. Painting size: 82.5 x 44.5cm Framed size: 104 x 67cm
