Description and details
This object is a decorative inlaid wood panel (wooden inlay) in various woods, which faithfully reproduces one of the most famous works of the Italian Renaissance: the Marriage of the Virgin by Raphael Sanzio. The main scene shows the marriage between Mary and Joseph, celebrated by the high priest in the center. In the background towers the iconic centrally planned temple with the famous geometric perspective typical of Raphael's original painting of 1504 (now preserved at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan). This is a fine work of cabinetmaking and marquetry, in which woods of different woods, hues and grains were cut and juxtaposed to create shading, shadowing and three-dimensional depth, without the use of paint.Frame and Details: The panel is set in a rich geometric frame , decorated with herringbone inlays, leaf motifs engraved in the corners in sheet metal , inserts with blue-colored gems that enrich the aesthetics.Decorative panels of this type are typical of Italian artistic craftsmanship (with important historical traditions in regions such as Lombardy, Veneto or Tuscany) and are generally dated between the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, a period when master cabinetmakers loved to reproduce the great masterpieces of the Renaissance on furniture or wall panels. frame size 64 cm x 48 cm
