Description and details
The fascinating panel painting, belonging to the sphere of late Mannerist painting in Ferrara (1580/1600), offers us, in a dramatic and visionary language, a rare subject with a strong eschatological impact: "The Vision of the Prophet Ezekiel." The prophet Ezekiel, wrapped in a mantle moved by a supernatural wind, raises his gaze to the divine light as he prophesies to the withered bones, which recompose themselves, clothe themselves with flesh and spirit, and rise again like an army. The "crowd of the resurrected" in the distance is rendered in a fairy-tale and macabre way at once, very representative of the spiritual and visionary climate of painting in the Ferrara area at the end of the 16th century. cm.127x89
