Small antique altar with a gilded wooden sculpture of the Virgin Mary—Baroque period

This is an antique devotional sculpture depicting a sacred figure in prayer set within a niche or domestic tabernacle. The work is crafted from carved wood and entirely gilded, a style typical of artisanal and sacred craftsmanship. The Virgin Mary is depicted standing with her gaze turned upward, an iconography typical of Our Lady of Sorrows or the Immaculate Virgin in spiritual ecstasy. The figure has a radiating halo on her head. The sculpture is set within an arched niche, framed by an opulent decoration of scrolls and foliage motifs (acanthus).
