Description and details
Elegant pair of small, finely carved and gilded wooden mecha frames, traceable to mid-19th-century Italian production. By type and structure it is probable that they were originally cantaglorie (liturgical ornamental elements), later adapted to frames. The frames have a rich decoration of scrolls and leaf motifs in both the upper and lower cyma, with shaped feet that allow them to be supported. The mecha gilding, now pleasingly patinated by time, shows natural signs of wear and craquelure that attest to its authenticity and antique charm.Ideal objects for collectors or for classic and eclectic furnishings, perfect for housing small engravings, miniatures or sacred images.Epoch: mid-19th centuryProvenance: ItalyMaterial: carved and gilded wood mechaExterior dimensions: about 18 x 26 cmInterior light: about 12 x 8.2 cmConservation status: good, with signs of time and slight flaws to the gilding consistent with age.Sold in pairs.
