The painting depicts a moment of conversation and strolling among ladies and gentlemen, arranged along a perspective avenue leading toward stairways, statues and green architecture, evoking the great aristocratic parks of the 18th century. The brushwork is loose and the colors delicate but luminous. The work combines decorative elegance and chromatic delicacy, making it ideal for both classical settings and more modern settings where a cultured and refined accent is desired. Biographical notes on the artist Eugenio Bonivento was born in Chioggia in 1880 and trained as a student of Guglielmo Ciardi. He exhibited for the first time in 1908 at the Galleria Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice, a fundamental point of reference for young art at the time, soon flanking important exhibitions in Turin and Milan. While starting from the Venetian tradition, he developed a personal language, characterized by rapid, synthetic painting and a marked chromatic sensitivity. To meet market demands he also produced works in 18th-century taste, sometimes signed with the pseudonym E. Zeno, and watercolors of Venetian views that were much appreciated by foreign collectors. His move to Milan shortly before World War II marked a decisive phase in his career, bringing him to full artistic maturity and wider recognition.
