Description and details
“Armonie Chioggiotte” - Luigi Pagan, 1931 A pair of views of Chioggia painted on wood, depicting two characteristic scenes of the lagoon city: the return from fishing and the picturesque Canal Vena, bustling with boats, fishermen, and passersby. The compositions stand out for the vibrancy of daily life, the luminosity of the architecture, and the green reflections on the water, contrasting with the warm tones of the facades and the ochre-colored sails. The rapid, textured brushstrokes naturally capture the city’s atmosphere, balancing the bustle of the harbor with the tranquility of its canals. Both works are set in elegant, gilded period frames that enhance the color rendering and traditional character of the views. Luigi Pagan (Chioggia, 1907–1980) was one of the most significant exponents of the so-called “Chioggismo,” a style of painting linked to the landscapes, traditions, and daily life of Chioggia. The son of fishermen, he always maintained a strong connection to his hometown, which became the primary subject of his work. He completed his artistic training in Venice at the Scuola d’Arte dei Carmini and the Academy of Fine Arts. The works are also available for sale separately.
