Description and details

ENNIO COCCHI PAINTED ON 2 SIDES OIL ON PANEL , ON ONE SIDE IS PAINTED A TUSCAN LANDSCAPE AND ON THE OTHER A STILL LIFE . MEASURE 38x28 cm / 50 x40 cm. ENNIO COCCHI While still very young, he attended the studio of the engraver Emilio Mazzoni Zarini and in 1929 he enrolled at the State Institute of Art in Porta Romana, where he was a student of the painter Gianni Vagnetti, then studied at the Academy of the Arts of Drawing, graduating in 1937. In 1940, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Florence acquired two of his works, and in 1951 one of his canvases ended up in New York destined for the school of the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. For the City of Florence, in 1955, he frescoed a Madonna and Child in the tabernacle on Via del Campuccio. In 1960, after his marriage, he settled in Antella, a hamlet of Bagno a Ripoli (Florence), where he moved his studio, preserving that shy character and the conviction to stay away from the temptations of the market while continuing to exhibit. In 1962 he held an anthological exhibition at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno (forty-eight works exhibited), with good results from critics; in 1963 that same Accademia offered him the opportunity of teaching but Cocchi preferred to decline in order to devote himself completely to painting; in 1965 he was engaged in several solo exhibitions and one of his works entitled Dare da mangiare agli affamati, exhibited in Viareggio, also earned him the gold medal of Pope Paul VI. While he is best known for his oil painting of still lifes and landscapes, it should be remembered that he devoted himself extensively to portraiture and also used other techniques in his artistic career: from etching to drypoint, from lithography to lapis and ink drawing. His works can be found in many private collections not only in Italy but also in France and Germany as well as in two national museums in Poland (a self-portrait in Warsaw and a still life in Krakow).
