The object is a splendid table reliquary cross very rare, a valuable artifact of sacred art datable approximately to the mid-eighteenth century.Characteristics of the objectMaterials and Manufacture:The body of the cross and the stepped pyramidal base are embellished with mirrored glass inserts (often called mercury mirrors ) decorated with elegant decor (applications ) in glass with geometric and floral motifs,the edges are surrounded by very fine applications also in glass,typical of the Veneto area . The terminals of the arms and the upper cymatium have carved and gilded wooden scrolls typical of the Baroque and Rococo repertoire.Function: In the center of the cross, at the intersection of the arms, is placed a glazed oval shrine with silver relic of the Cross of Christ . The combination of mirrored surfaces and gilded details fully reflects the scenic taste of the Baroque era, designed to reflect and multiply candlelight during liturgical services or inside private chapels. The stauroteca is in mint condition and is original in all parts.
