Description and details
The subject depicted in this painting is the Ecce Homo (or the Sorrowful Christ Crowned with Thorns). It depicts the face of Jesus Christ during the Passion, characterized by the crown of thorns, his sorrowful gaze directed toward heaven, and his hands crossed over his chest. The painting captures a moment of intense suffering during the Passion, with a strong chiaroscuro contrast typical of the period. It is one of the most traditional and widespread representations in Christian sacred art. Due to the strong contrasts of light and shadow (chiaroscuro), the dark tones, and the dramatic rendering of the face, the work belongs to the tradition of Baroque painting of the Italian school (specifically the Emilian school or the circle of Guido Reni) or the Flemish school, dating approximately to the 17th–18th centuries. The painting is in excellent condition. It has a stain on the face, as shown in the photograph. H. 30 cm - W. 23 cm.
