Description and details
This object is an antique crucifix-water font wall crucifix, datable to the 19th century of Neapolitan manufacture ,in silver with unidentified marks . The central cross is made of ebonized wood (or stained black to imitate ebony). The body of Christ (the Corpus), the upper cartouche with the inscription "INRI," the decorative terminals of the cross (chants), the halo, and the lower basin for holy water are made of embossed and cast silver. Under the feet of Jesus is the classic symbol of the skull with crossed bones, representing Golgotha (place of the skull) and Christ's victory over death. mis.h.33 cm - larg.21
