Antique brass embossed alms plate ,17th century period ,very good condition size diameter 39 cm -h.5 cm The object is an alms plate, a type of large basin or dish used to collect offerings for the church. These plates are generally made of metal such as bronze, brass, silver or gold. The specimen shown is embossed brass, with a central umbo decorated in the form of a corolla or fan and stylized decorations engraved along the rim. Similar objects often date from the 16th or 17th century, and their production was common in areas such as Germany (Nuremberg) or the Netherlands. The main function was the collection of donations during religious services.
