Description and details
Beautiful finely carved boxwood christ 18th century-Integral in all its partsThis is a Corpus Christi (crucified Christ figure) carved in boxwood, a collector's item. Boxwood is a valuable wood, known for its hardness and firmness, which allows carvings with minute and precise details. These devotional carvings were popular in the 17th and 18th centuries, often made for churches or private altars. The figure shows carefully carved anatomy and a loincloth (cloth at the waist) draped and knotted at the sides. The polished surface and warm reddish-brown patina of the wood lend a remarkable tactile and visual appearance. Similar specimens have been attributed to Flemish, German or Lombard schools, with some works recalling the style of Giambologna. meas.h.17 cm - w.arms 15 cm
