Description and details
A splendid pair of antique angel candlesticks, crafted from carved, lacquered, and gilded wood. These are sacred decorative sculptures known as “reggicero” or “porta torcera.” They were placed on altars or on either side of religious and patrician furnishings. The draped robes with their subtle folds and the style of the sculpted bases are reminiscent of Baroque or late-Renaissance sculpture from central Italy (most likely from Tuscany or Umbria), dating primarily from the late 16th century to the 17th century. The two mirror-image angels each raise one arm to support the candle holder, while with their other arm they make a gesture of welcome or prayer.Condition: The figures show typical signs of age, such as small areas where the gold leaf and the lacquer on the skin have flaked off—elements that confirm their authenticity and antique charm. Dimensions: H 67 cm, W 38 cm, D 19 cm
