Description and details
Elegant devotional altarpiece made of finely carved wood gilded with real pure gold, made in the second half of the 19th century, according to a neo-Baroque language inspired by the models of the 17th-17th centuries. The composition is dominated by a rayed sun with central cloud, a symbol of divine presence, enriched by winged cherubs' heads carved in the round. At the base of the central motif are two kneeling adoring angels, finely carved, which lend movement and intense expressiveness to the whole. The lower body features a wavy, shaped base, decorated with scrolls, foliage and relief frames, typical of the nineteenth-century decorative taste of Baroque revival. Four carved and gilded candleholders are integrated at the sides, harmoniously inserted into the structure. The upper part is completed by a gilded canopy, surmounted by a cross, an element that emphasizes its liturgical and devotional function. The real gold gilding, warm and bright, has a pleasant patina of time that testifies to the age of the work and the quality of the craftsmanship. An object of considerable decorative impact, suitable for collectors of sacred art or as representative furnishings.
