Description and details
Pair of Large Tuscan Nightstands in Walnut – Early 19th Century An elegant and distinctive pair of large Tuscan nightstands from the early 19th century, veneered in flamed walnut and adorned with white marble tops. The two pieces stand out for their distinctive architectural structure, with the upper section narrower than the base—a design that lends the set a remarkable sense of height and elegant proportions. The surfaces display a beautiful walnut grain, particularly evident on the large front panels, while the shaped and fluted legs emphasize the refined design of the pieces. Both feature an upper drawer and a central compartment closed by a door. The lower section includes an additional compartment, one of which still retains the original recess intended for a chamber pot, in keeping with the customs of the time. This particular type of nightstand was widespread in Tuscany during the 19th century and was also frequently found in convent settings and in the rooms of female religious communities.
