Description and details
Pair of altar friezes in carved, gilded and silver-plated wood, composed of five cusped mirrors punctuated by volutes with interlaced motifs in relief, in neo-Gothic taste. The silver-plated background is partially worn, with obvious period patina, while the profiles and decorations are finely mission gilded. The form and function suggest use as an altar riser, crowning of ecclesiastical furniture, or cymatium from liturgical apparatus. The compact construction and symmetrical decoration indicate a serial but refined production, typical of sacred decoration between the late 18th and first half of the 19th century.
