Description and details
Oil on canvas with gilt frame, late 19th and early 20th century, depicting a Scottish landscape. Signed at lower left. Artist: JACK DUCKER (1865-1930). DIMENSIONS: 66 x 57 cm, CANVAS: 50 x 38 cm. Ducker's landscapes of Barbizon and Britain showcase the different facets of the Scottish and British countryside. [10] Many of the painter's documented works feature a muted, earthy color palette that highlights the atmospheric, russet spectrum of the Scottish Highlands. [11] Ducker's scenes are often idyllic and evoke a similar compositional structure. [11] The Rocky Mountains are often a focal point, with an emphasis on other natural elements such as gnarled and leafy trees, low shrubs, tall green grasses, and quiet lakes and ponds. [11] Ducker sometimes depicts wild birds and grazing animals, such as sheep, as well as farmers caring for them. Most of Ducker's documented brushstrokes are moderately precise, with meticulously controlled details applied with a fine brush or similar medium. In documented paintings, Ducker tends to sign the canvas in the lower left or right corners with the signature "JMDucker" or "JDucker," sometimes emphasizing his last name.
