A beautiful oil painting on canvas-lined board, Rodolfo Marma (1923–1998), nuns in Piazza Santo Spirito. Dimensions: 30 x 20 cm—frame: 45 x 36 cm Rodolfo Marma. He was born in 1923 in the Santa Croce neighborhood of Florence, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Ugo Capocchini, graduating in 1948. At the same time, he studied at Emanuele Cavalli’s studio. In 1954, Marisa, the only and much-loved daughter of Rodolfo Marma and Geraldine, was born in Florence. From 1956 to 1958, he lived and worked in New York, where he would return later. Of particular significance is his correspondence from the years he spent in America, which reveals his love for and longing for his hometown, as well as the letters exchanged with his friends Vasco Pratolini, Primo Conti, and his young daughter. In the “generous land of America,” a day was dedicated to her in 1965—“Marma’s Day”—while between 1967 and 1972 she focused on exhibiting her work in Florence.
