Description and details
Elegant and rare Palermitan cabinet from the Charles X period, made in Sicily in the first half of the 19th century and panelled in fine rosewood, characterized by spectacular flamed and marbled veins that give the cabinet an extraordinary chromatic depth. The cabinet is distinguished by its exceptional quality of execution and the harmony of its proportions. The front is organized according to a refined and functional scheme: an upper drawer, a pair of central doors concealing interior compartments, and four large lower drawers. The entire surface is embellished with rich inlay decoration in light-colored essences that designs elegant plant volutes, ornamental motifs and refined central reserves with scenes of neoclassical taste inspired by the ancient world.Particularly striking is the contrast between the warm hue of the inlays and the rich texture of the rosewood veneer, an element that enhances the cabinetry quality of the work and increases its decorative value. The wavy line of the top cap, the rounded corners and the refined ornamental setting are typical features of the best Palermitan production of the Charles X period. This piece of furniture represents one of the most significant models of Sicilian cabinetmaking of the first half of the 19th century, in which the neoclassical taste of figured reserves and the decorative richness of traditional Palermitan craftsmanship coexist harmoniously.
