Terracotta bust depicting a male portrait, created by the sculptor Cesarino Vincenzi (1914–2011) On the back is inscribed “Portrait of Otello Scandellari”—the artist’s signature, the model’s name, and the date 1946— Dimensions: width 34 cm, height 29 cm, depth 20 cm He was born in Monte San Pietro in 1914 (Bologna) He earned his high school diploma in the arts from a high school in Bologna. He refined his technique by taking a sculpture course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. In 1953, he obtained his teaching certification in the arts. He taught plastic arts at the Art High School in Bologna from 1969 to 1979 From 1979 to 1982, he held the chair of plastic arts at the State Art Institute in Bologna.In 1928, at age 14, he sculpted a plaster statue of Saint John the Baptist for the Church of Calamosco in Bologna. In 1930, at age 16, he modeled the statues of Saint Andrew and Saint Vincent for the façade of the Church of Cadriano in Bologna. In 1930, at age 16, he won first prize in the “Young Catholic Artists of Bologna” competition. In 1934, at age 20, he sculpted 90-centimeter terracotta figures and received a scholarship awarded to the best student. In 1949, at the age of 34, the Order of St. Maria Gloriosa conferred upon Vincenzi the honor of Grazia Magistrale In 1992, at the age of 73, Vincenzi was awarded the Diploma of Accademico Flamineo In 1992, at the age of 78, Vincenzi was awarded by Pope John Paul II the prestigious title of “Commendatore dell’Ordine di S.” The decoration was conferred as a sign of recognition for the great contribution his artistic works made to the development of sacred art throughout most of Italy In 1996, at the age of 82, Bologna’s Councilor for Culture, Concetto Pozzati, awarded Vincenzi a medal in recognition and appreciation of his long, fruitful, and interesting career In 2002, at the age of 88, the Committee for Historic and Artistic Bologna (BSA) awarded him a medal with a parchment certificate for his achievements in the field of art
