TERRACOTTA SCULPTURE DEPICTING FEMALE NUDE ,THE WORK OF THE SCULPTOR "ALBERTO SPARAPANI" SIGNED . Good condition small lack in the hand /(see photo) measures L 50 cm , h 40 cm , p 26 cm Alberto Sparapani was born in Casale Marittimo in the province of Pisa on May 14, 1911. He attended the Art Institute of Volterra under the teaching of Giulio Caluri. In 1940, after moving to Carrara, he married Vittoria, his beloved lifelong companion. In those years Sparapani's activity was divided between his workshop and atelier located in Avenza, on Via Farini, in front of the Tower of Castruccio Castracani, and his attendance at the Free School of Nude at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. Many group exhibitions beginning in 1953: the Interprovincial Exhibitions of the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, the Carrara Biennials, the Quadrennial Exhibitions of Europe, the National Art and Sport Exhibitions of Florence, the International Biennials of Trieste, the National Bronzetto and Sculpture Exhibitions of Genoa, the exhibitions at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, and at the Circolo degli Artisti-Casa di Dante in Florence, the Tuscan Art/Sculpture Biennials of Arezzo. He also participated in numerous national and international competitions, often winning them. In 1960 he won 1st prize in the competition for the sculptural group for Lorenzo Viani's tomb, which he executed, in marble, the following year. He is present in several Italian museums; his works are preserved in Florence, in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore and in the church of S. Michele degli Scalzi in Orticaia in the province of Pisa. There are many works in private collections and numerous monuments on Italian soil; we recall the most impressive: The Monumento ai Ragazzi del '99 in Bassano del Grappa from 1973 and the Monumento al Cavatore in Colonnata from 1983. Nproven from various Italian cities. Avenza, under the impetus given by Sparapani, saw in 1971 its 1st Biennial of Sacred Con-temporary Art desired as a tribute to the memory of Lorenzo Viani and, in 1984, the 1st Inter-national Biennial of Avenza. In 1961 he is awarded the honor of "Cavaliere dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana" and, in 2001, he receives the Grande Medaglia d'Argento of the President of the Republic for his great merits acquired in the field of art.?
