Description and details
Interesting and evocative oil painting on panel by Labronian painter Cafiero Filippelli (1889-1973), made in the 1930s.The work depicts an interior scene illuminated by the flickering light of a candle, a theme particularly dear to the Leghorn artist and among the most sought-after subjects in his production. A female figure, leaning toward the lamp, accompanies a little girl dressed in red, creating a cosy, intimate atmosphere rendered with great luministic sensitivity.Filippelli, an exponent of the Labronico Group, was among the most appreciated interpreters of 20th-century Tuscan painting. Trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, he developed a personal language derived from the post-Macchiaiola tradition, distinguishing himself above all for his family interiors illuminated by artificial light sources, capable of conveying intense emotional participation and deep humanity. In this painting, candlelight becomes the real compositional centerpiece, shaping the figures and making the volumes emerge from the darkness with synthetic and vibrant painting. The warm tone and the silent atmosphere give the work a strong poetic value, typical of the artist's best production.Signature at lower right.Coeval gilded wooden frame.Painting size: cm 35 x 45.5Frame size: cm 54.5 x 65Operation in good state of preservation.
