Description and details
Evocative and rare interior scene by Labronian painter Cafiero Filippelli, titled "Bad Advice," created in the 1930s with the oil-on-board technique. The work belongs to one of the most appreciated strands of Filippelli's production: domestic interiors illuminated by artificial light, a subject that earned him the reputation of a true "wizard of interiors" in 20th-century Italian painting. The composition depicts two female figures gathered in an intimate and silent setting, illuminated by the warm light of an oil lamp. The dialogue between the protagonists, suggested by the title, gives the scene a strong narrative and psychological component, while the refined play of light and shadow reveals all the artist's sensitivity to the luministic effects and collected atmospheres that characterize his most sought-after production. A pupil of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence and close to the post-Macchiaiola tradition, Filippelli was one of the most important exponents of the Leghorn school of the 20th century, participating in Venice Biennials and Roman Quadrennials. Work signed at lower left and presented in an elegant gilded wooden frame.Painting size: cm 35 x 45.5Frame size: cm 54.5 x 65.5A particularly representative work of Cafiero Filippelli's intimist painting, capable of combining narrative, atmosphere and luministic quality in a scene of intense suggestion.
