This painting depicts the Immaculate Conception of Los Venerables (or the Immaculate Conception by Soult), a famous work by the Spanish painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. Artist and Period: An 18th-century panel painting based on the famous work created by the artist Bartolomé Esteban Murillo around 1678. Subject: The work depicts the Catholic dogma of the Immaculate Conception, with the Virgin Mary standing on a crescent moon surrounded by angels (putti) among the clouds. Original Location: It was commissioned for the Hospital de los Venerables Sacerdotes in Seville. Current Location: Today, the original painting is housed at the Prado Museum in Madrid.
