St. John the Baptist with a Cleric in Prayer – Late 18th Century An interesting small oil painting on wood, dating to the late 18th century, depicting St. John the Baptist—recognizable by his traditional attributes of the lamb and the banner—alongside a cleric kneeling in prayer. The composition, of a devotional nature, features meticulous painting and particular attention to the depiction of the figures. Traces of a previous pictorial border are visible along the edges, suggesting that the work may originally have been part of a larger composition or a small element intended for devotional use. The panel was later glued onto a hardboard backing and is presented in a frame from a later period. Date: Late 18th century. Technique: Oil on panel mounted on hardboard.
