Description and details
An elegant devotional sculpture depicting Saint Lucy, crafted from carved wood, polychromed, and embellished with gold leaf. The work, dating to the first half of the 19th century, features a figure with a composed demeanor and a gentle, contemplative expression, in keeping with the traditional iconography of the saint from Syracuse. The saint is depicted with her customary attributes: in her left hand she holds the small plate intended to hold her eyes, a symbol of her martyrdom and her protection of sight. Her robe, painted in dark tones, is enlivened by the rich gilded drapery that wraps around her hips, creating a pleasing chromatic contrast and highlighting the quality of the carving.
