Description and details
Oil on canvas by the Florentine painter Rodolfo Marma, signed in the lower right corner and dated 1977. The work depicts a luminous view of the Ponte Alle Grazie in Florence, as indicated by the artist’s handwritten inscription on the back of the canvas. The famous bridge stands out against the Arno River in front of the houses and buildings that rise up the hill toward San Niccolò, in a composition rendered with loose, textured brushstrokes and a vibrant palette dominated by blues, pinks, ochres, and greens. The artist interprets the urban landscape with lyrical sensitivity, prioritizing light and atmosphere over descriptive detail. The reflections on the water amplify the scene’s luminosity and help create an image of great decorative appeal. On the right side of the composition appears a small figure of a nun, a subject that frequently recurs in Rodolfo Marma’s works and can be considered one of the distinctive elements of his painterly output. The presence of the nun introduces a narrative and human element into the landscape, helping to make the work particularly distinctive and recognizable. The work is preserved in its period frame and is accompanied by a handwritten inscription on the back: “Florence – Ponte Alle Grazie – R. Marma 1977.”Dimensions: Canvas: 50 x 70 cm; Frame: 70 x 90 cm. Condition: Good overall condition. Period frame with normal, slight signs of aging.
