Richard Burnier (1826–1884) Dutch Landscape with Grazing Cattle Oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right. A painting by the Dutch artist Richard Burnier (1826–1884), known for his body of work devoted primarily to rural landscapes and animal subjects. The work depicts an evocative landscape of the Dutch countryside, featuring several cattle near a body of water. In the foreground, a cow drinking dominates the composition, while other animals are visible in the background, among the vegetation and trees. On the left, in the distance, the silhouette of a windmill completes the typically Dutch setting. Particular attention has been paid to the anatomical rendering of the animals, as well as to the treatment of light, the reflections on the water, and the varying shades of the vegetation. The painting is set in a wooden frame from a later period, which is not original. Technique: oil on canvas. Canvas dimensions: 98 × 66 cm. Dimensions with frame: 111/112 × 78 cm.
