The work shown is an oil on canvas painting depicting the Infancy of Zeus or Jupiter attributed to Flemish painter Jacob Jordanes dating in the early 1600s . The painting illustrates an episode from Greek mythology set on the island of Crete ( according to myth ) , to hide Zeus' newborn child from his Cronus father who intended to devour him the child entrusted to the care of the goat and other mythological figures.
