Description and details
Seascape with Fishing Boats Along the Coast – First Half of the 19th Century European school, probably French or English. An interesting oil painting on canvas from the first half of the 19th century, depicting several fishing boats sailing near the coast amid choppy waves and a vast sky streaked with luminous clouds. The composition is dominated by a sailboat in the foreground, depicted as it braves the rough sea, while other boats and sailing ships can be seen on the horizon in the background. Particularly evocative is the atmospheric rendering, characterized by the contrasts between the brightness of the sky, the blue and gray hues of the clouds, and the reflections of light on the rippling surface of the sea. The work exhibits stylistic characteristics attributable to the tradition of Northern European marine painting from the first half of the 19th century. Date: first half of the 19th century. Technique: oil on canvas. Dimensions of the painting: 56.5 × 36 cm. External dimensions of the frame: 74 × 54 cm. Frame: wooden, from a later period than the painting.
