Description and details
Oil painting on panel depicting an exquisite animated landscape with figures and livestock, by Pieter Gerardus van Os (1776-1839), signed lower right. The composition is centered around a building with towers overlooking a body of water, probably a mill or rural structure, connected by a bridge and animated by scenes of everyday life. In the foreground we see folk figures - a woman with child, a fisherman and animals - while on the right a herd crosses the path, contributing to the sense of movement and depth.Particularly notable is the extremely accurate rendering of the masonry of the building: the bricks are described with minuteness and almost analytical precision, lending solidity and realism to the architecture and demonstrating the artist's great technical skill. The work also shows a refined atmospheric sensitivity and a balanced construction of the landscape, typical of Dutch painting in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.Late 18th-early 19th century.Oil on panel.Signed at lower right.Dimensions of painting: 51.5 x 39.5 cmDimensions with frame: 62.5 x 52.5 cmGood overall condition, with normal signs of time consistent with the era.Shipping throughout Europe with professional packing in wooden crate.
