Italy, mid-19th centuryRefined table cantaglory dating from the mid-19th century, made of finely carved and gilded wood. The composition is richly decorated with rocaille volutes, phytomorphic elements and an elegant winged cherub carved in the round at the top, a symbol of inspiration and spirituality.Inserted in the center is a lithographic cartouche with sacred text in Latin: "Initium Sancti Evangelii secundum Joannem," the incipit of the Gospel of St. John, embellished with a decorative polychrome frame in vivid blue and red tones. The whole presents a wavy and balanced structure, resting on shaped feet, a typical nineteenth-century devotional production intended for private oratories, sacristies or ecclesiastical furnishings.
