Description and details
This object is an antique tabernacle door, datable to the Baroque early 18th century. It is an artifact of sacred art, embossed on mercury-gilded bronze, originally mounted on the front of the tabernacle to hold the consecrated hosts inside the churches. In the center of the composition stands out the embossed figure of a radiate monstrance that is grafted onto the structure of a Eucharistic chalice. The IHS Monogram: In the heart of the radiate is clearly visible the ancient trigram IHS surmounted by a cross. It represents the nomen sacrum of Jesus (from the abbreviation of the name in ancient Greek or read as an acronym for Iesus Hominum Salvator). The Cherubim: Around the stem of the chalice and on the sides of the striped background are depicted faces of small winged angels (cherubim) inserted between Baroque ornamental motifs of scrolls and acanthus leaves. The Structure:The shape is centered (arched at the top), typical of this type of liturgical furniture, and retains on the left side the metal hinges for the hinged opening and on the right side the slot for the lock, the back has been reinforced at the rear with lock and brass plate. mis.h.43 cm-l.23 cm thickness 3 cm
