Description and details
This splendid artifact is a monastery reliquary painting from the Baroque period presumably dating to the 17th-18th century.The work is enclosed in a rich polychrome plastic carving decoration in disalecartapesta paste , typical of convent devotional works known as paperoles or canivets. In the center a medallion ,a finely hand watercolor engraving depicting madonna with child, Inside are various relics with cartouche , there are various relics (7 relics originally 8 ,one lost in fact on the back shows a small restoration patch with fabric ,5 are intact with original card 2 the card probably detached , the saints in the 5 relics with card are legible from the photos). (saint crown martyr ,saint pia martyr,saint rufina martyr,saint vitaliano martyr etc. ) These objects were mainly made by nuns in cloistered monasteries using poor materials, assembled with extraordinary skill and technical patience to adorn the relics of Christian martyrs extracted from the Roman catacombs- frame size 24.5 x 20 cm reliquary 20 cm x 15.5 cm
